for Steve Levine
you can watch the planes at night
if such is your pleasure
stars no longer being visible in cities
instead you watch these machines
eastbound to LaGuardia and Kennedy
westbound to Newark and beyond
and everywhere the glow
unmistakable
from the planes they realize
there are people down below
you are one of them
dart the helicopters ever so quickly
as on an electric-lit night in Manhattan?
will it ever stop?
this motion
trails across the dome
as real as humankind
nowhere it is silent
it is us, we are humming
